This policy explains how Lowedown Software handles information when you visit www.lowedown.software, use the Earthquakes app, or contact us.
Lowedown Software does not collect personal information through website forms or use the website for analytics, advertising tracking or marketing sign-ups.
Our hosting provider may process technical connection information, such as IP addresses and server logs, to deliver and protect the website.
If you contact us by email, the support correspondence section below applies.
Earthquakes does not require an account or ask for your name, email address or other personal details.
The app does not include advertising or third-party analytics SDKs. It does not request access to your device’s location. Coordinates shown in the app describe earthquakes, not your location.
Your magnitude and days settings, and any saved earthquake records, are stored locally on your device. They are not sent to Lowedown Software. Depending on your device settings, local app data may be included in backups managed by Apple.
Earthquakes connects to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) to download earthquake information and available ShakeMap intensity contours. Requests include a date range or an earthquake identifier.
Apple Maps provides map imagery and mapping services.
These services receive network requests from your device, including your network IP address, and may process technical information under their own privacy policies:
If you open an external link, that website’s privacy practices apply while you visit it.
If you contact us, we receive your email address and any information you choose to include, such as your name, a description of a problem, screenshots or diagnostic logs.
We use this information to respond to your enquiry and provide support. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information that is not needed to explain your request.
We do not sell or rent personal information or use support enquiries to enrol you in marketing communications.
Our email and service providers may process correspondence on our behalf. We may also disclose information where required by law. These providers may process information in countries outside your own.
Where applicable data protection law requires a lawful basis, we rely on our legitimate interests in responding to enquiries and supporting our software, subject to your rights and interests.
We retain support correspondence for as long as needed to resolve your enquiry and related follow-up, or longer where required by law.
Local app information remains on your device until it is removed or the app is deleted. Copies in device backups may remain subject to your backup settings. Using “Offload App” may preserve app data.
External service providers retain information according to their own policies.
We use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the information we handle. Requests for USGS earthquake and ShakeMap data use HTTPS.
No method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed completely secure.
You can change your saved filters within Earthquakes. Deleting the app removes its local data from the device; backups must be managed separately through your Apple settings.
You may contact us to request access to, correction of or deletion of personal information we hold about you. Depending on the law that applies, you may also have rights to restrict processing, object to processing or receive a portable copy of your information.
We cannot retrieve settings or earthquake records stored only on your device. Requests concerning information held independently by Apple, USGS or another external provider should be directed to that provider.
You may raise a concern with your local data protection authority. In the UK, you can contact the Information Commissioner’s Office.
The Earthquakes-specific statements above apply to Earthquakes. Other apps may have different features or external services; please consult the privacy information provided for the particular app.
We may update this policy as our website, software or practices change. Updates will be published on this page with a revised date.
